X-tra! Kieler Woche
"I will always dig for the truth and report it back to you"!
The Gorch Fock June 26, 2013, Kiel - It was a cold and rainy night. But, suddenly, there was a short break from the rain which was just long enough for me, Heckery Dekkery Dog Traveling Reporter at Large, to be walked on the pier. I knew I was a lucky dog to be a part of the 131st Kieler Woche. This year, the world's largest sailing event would include 5,000 sailors and 3,000,000 visitors from all over the world! No one could confirm the official number of dogs attending the event, but there were some.
It was a cold and rainy night.
The next morning, the wind was blowing hard as I headed for the dock for a day journey on board the MS Nordstern. Yet again, though every once in awhile the sun would peek through the clouds, it was pretty stormy!
View from the inside out....
Heckery Dekkery Dog Traveling Reporter at Large is proud to know someone aboard this BIG grey navy ship! The Gorch Fock
Built in 1958, this oldest serving ship of the German Navy is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, but it has no power steering! You have to use your muscles to handle both the sail and the steering! Ouch!
http://www.london.diplo.de/Vertretung/london/en/__pr/Embassy__Events/2013/Gorch-Fock.html There were BIG ships and little ships and many in-between ships. This reporting dog thinks sailing should be a breeze, but the strong wind was making this race a challenge. May I help you?
"I saw a Ferris wheel on the pier, and there were LOTS of BIG boats, little boats and In-between boats, too"! - Rufus
Of course, with so many sailors, not everyone could finish first, second or third! Doing your best is always what really matters though, and these sailors were doing their best to finish in good time! In the meantime, this dog-eared, digging reporter was happy to be warm, dry and well fed on board a nice, dry ship. Your Heckery Dekkery Dog Traveling Reporter at Large, Rufus....
"I will always dig for the truth and report it back to you"!
Heckery Dekkery Dot Travel Game Postcards for Children wants children to learn about the world around them because EVERYONE WINS when that happens!
A special thank you goes to my daughters Alicia and Janella for their valuable input and to my husband Barthold, to Eveline, and to the Damen der Englisch-Gruppe in Marburg for their help with the German translations.
Please ask a parent or another grownup to travel with you whenever you visit on-line sites.
